This morning was the perfect morning to dig out the mixing bowls, measuring cups, recipe book and warm up the oven.
Boston Brown Bread
Whole wheat flour 1 cup
Corn meal 1 cup
All-purpose flour 1 cup
Brown sugar 2 Tbsp.
Baking powder 1 tsp.
Baking soda 1 tsp.
Salt 1 tsp.
Raisins (optional) 1 cup
Water 1 1/4 cup
Molasses 3/4 cup
Cooking oil 2 Tbsp

In a small bowl stir water and molasses until blended. Add cooking oil and pour into well. Stir just to moisten. Batter may be lumpy. Fill two greased 28 oz. (796ml) or three 19 oz (540 ml) cans 2/3 full. Cover with foil and secure with string. Place cans on rack in pan with boiling water halfway up the sides of cans. Cover the pan with a foil tent. Steam in 325 F oven for 2 hours. Add more boiling water. Keep the water half way up the cans.
Remove from oven and cool. To remove bread from cans, you may need to run a knife around the can. Great served with cream cheese, butter, cheese. Serve hot or cold.
Makes 2 or 3 loaves.
Now you just need a bowl of chili, baked beans, any hearty home made soup! enjoy
