Photo Challenge Day # 26

Day # 26

She wondered the path at the edge of the swollen river, far from town. Enjoying the sounds of the birds, and the squirrels jumping tree to tree as they collected nuts and seeds.
The air was crisp, as she enjoyed her walk with the sun was slowly warming her.
She was thinking about life, her future plans. She was deep in her thoughts, so deep that she didn't notice that the woods had changed around her. Then, she heard a noise from behind her…

Or maybe...

She was skipping along, with a basket of goodies to take to her ill grandmother, who was in bed, when she heard someone, something behind her…

Or maybe…

As she ran down the path…away from the huntsman. She stopped to rest when she heard singing in the woods.
Hi ho hi ho its off to work we go…

Or maybe….

Day # 26  "Magic Footpath"
It is Jewels having fun with her pocket camera she calls "sweet pea". It has several different settings. The picture above was taken with a setting called "toy" camera, it changed the feel of the picture of this footpath found at Cottonwood Island Park, almost a mysterious feel. What do you think?

Photo Challenge Day #24

Day # 24

The morning started out with rain, so, I was thinking it would be an inside day.
To my pleasure, the sun came out, and so did everyone else. They were working in their yards, going for walks or just sipping a beverage on the patio.
I went for a walk to Wilson Park, right here in the city limits of Prince George. It is nice to have a place to go, to walk, think, dream, relax, plan, de-stress or just to enjoy Mother Nature.
The wind was blowing through my hair, the air smelt of moss, new growth, pine and wet dirt. The sun felt warm on my face.
As, I walked, you can hear the birds, singing, squirrels, dogs barking in the distance, and a tree that fell. The song of nature.

Day # 23

These bright flowers are nearing their time as they linger in the vase.
I am not ready to put them out into the compost,  not just yet. So, they sit outside in my backyard  on a picnic table.
I still see their beauty, even though the petals are wilting and leaves are dry.
The flower heads are now bowing down with the slightest breeze. Their petals fluttering bidding a gentle farewell.

Day # 23 "Wilted"

If you think that these photos are a bit blurred, fading…I did this on purpose. I wanted to set a mood, a feeling, like the rain we've had these few days.

Enjoy the rain, find a bright moment!

I am having fun with my photo challenges and learning a lot. I hope that you are enjoying my bloggs and the pictures I have posted!

Today was a play day for me. I can easily get distracted on a sunny day and take my camera around my house and yard to take photos. Looking around your world  through a lens is fun and you never know what you will see.

I found a lens from my Pentax K1000, and even though I could not attach it to my canon, I used it anyway and had some fun. I am thinking of other ways of using this lens!

Buttons

I inherited my button basket many years ago from an old friend who was moving. This basket was passed along to her, and I know one day, I shall pass the basket to someone else.
If I put the basket on a table, it won't take long before someone has the lid off, and their fingers are playing, their fingers digging, swirling, tickling the buttons.
I don't know if it is the feel, the colours, the age of the buttons or the sound they make as you pour them back in that attracts you to the button basket.

Each button tells a story of a garment they were intended. Very large buttons to the tiny ones.
I wonder if I had buttons similar to these on my dresses and blouses when I was a little girl.
In this basket are also buttons from outfits I had made for my daughters, sweaters for my sons, and knitted items of clothing for my grand kids.

Day # 17

We went out for Chinese food, after exploring L C Gunn Park, earlier today. The paths were damp from the winters frost leaving. New growth starting to pop, and the moss is a bright Irish green. And of course the smell of fresh pine.
After dinner I was surprised by my fortune cookie!
And it read.....
"Do not follow where the path may lead. Go where there is no path....and leave a trail."

There are so many paths to explore at the park offering beautiful scenery, the occasion hiker, the distant sound of the trains. You can sit and watch the river flow far below you..and  you know you are not far from home.

I spent the night at my mothers, her first day home from the hospital. Day 6 from her hip surgery. She is doing well, so well, that at 8 a.m. as I lay on my air mattress, planning the day. I hear a noise in the kitchen, and that wonderful smell. My mom, got up wondered to the kitchen to make us a cup of coffee, so, awesome!!

First Day of Spring

Spring is one of the four conventional temperate seasons, following winter and preceding summer.
Spring and "Spring time" refer to the season, and also to ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation,
renewal, resurrection and regrowth.

Springtime,as I look out my window, watching people going for a stroll holding hands. Birds
flying in pairs. A few green leaves, whether they are weeds or not, shows us new life, new growth.

I took a peaceful moment alone as I wondered about Ft George Park in the rain.
Most people would stay in doors under an afghan, with a book and their  tea in hand during the rain shower.
Where as I enjoy the quiet gentle patter of the rain drops on my rain coat. I love the smell of a fresh spring rain, as I walk along the river front.

Day # 13

As I was walking along the Cottonwood Island trail, I had noticed ducks swimming in the river. They were chasing each other, swimming amongst the floating ice.

The ducks were swimming in pairs. Groups sunning themselves on the muddy bank. The ducks don't seem to notice the runners, and walkers on the path, or the train and cars on the bridges. Self absorbed in their own world.

I walk slowly along the muddy bank of the river. Creeping slowly, closer to the ducks. They don't seem to notice me. The ice in the water, hitting each other. It sounds like sheets of glass breaking in  the river.

I notice there is one duck on guard, keeping an eye out for me.
He quacks a warning, to me or to his friends.
I imagine the duck saying something like this.
"Hey everyone! Jewels is here! Show her your good side. She wants to take a photo!"

The sun was shining, and I thought it would be a good time to get out and play in my front flower bed, after removing the dead plant growth from last growing season. I found my tulip plants reaching for the sun.  Along the house foundation grows these tiny plants, I had planted many years ago. They are called Grape Hyacinth. They make their appearance each year and flower before the tulips and my crocuses.

Their meaning ( in a source I found) is "play"! Which is fitting, because after a long winter we get excited and get out side to play.

Hope

We went for a walk, to Fort George Park. The sun was shining, the air was crisp. People are out walking their dogs, parents and children at the play ground. You can hear laughter and the squeak of the swings. In the distance, college aged students are playing hacki  sack (spelling).

We found 'snowdrops' in the parks flower beds. I looked up the meaning for 'snowdrops'. The meaning for this little flower is Hope!

As I walk around the park, I am thinking of my mom who went to the hospital for hip surgery. She showed me a brave face, but she was scared inside, scared of the unknown.  She knew that there was hope for her, to walk again with out pain, to do the things she likes with out pain…with some hope. She is resting well, ready for the challenge of physio   therapy and she knows her hopes and dreams will come true.

Hope has a different meaning for each person. Hope for a sunny day. Hope for time off work. Hope to land that great job. Hope my test results are in my favour. And more.
For all those people who need hope, I see this little flower, with its challenges of the crisp air, cold and  frozen ground…it appears and it grows! This little flower gives me …..hope….

What do you hope for? What are your hopes and dreams?

Dinner

Dinner usually refers to the most significant, and important meal of the day. Which can be served at noon or evening.

Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. Contains essential nutrients, fats, vitamins, minerals to maintain your bodies cells, growth, life.

I do enjoy the eating, but, there is something said about the preparing of the meal, researching, shopping, slicing, dicing. Adding the herbs, spices to the meal. Setting the table, the music, the wine, and then family is gathered…or that one special person…the atmosphere, adds to the meal.

The meal can be enjoyed in or out of doors, a simple meal with the right people, or, even alone with the right view.

Having someone prepare the meal for you, while you watch, inhaling the fragrance of the meal…fills up your spirit, your heart and eventually when you dine, your stomach!

This one of the dinner ingredients, can you guess what it is, and what I had for dinner?

Rain

Rain, for some people, chases them back indoors, to watch the rain from their shelter.
They huddle under blankets, with tea, listening to rain's music on the windows pane and on the roof. This is of course is for  the,  adventurous ones listen for the symphony of the storm.

This music beckons me outside to experience the raindrops touching my face like the first kiss of spring. A glorious feeling that brings new life and beauty.

Enjoy the music and mystery of a Spring Rain! Take a moment and explore a rain drop.

Day # 8

I have been collecting frogs from the first time one appeared as a gift from one of my children. Since then they have multiplied, you can find them all over the house and yard. Some of my frogs, look realistic, comical, wearing rain coats, hanging in trees, have a solar panel on their backs. I do look for that unique frog when I travel. I have been told that I have a frog epidemic in my yard!

During this time of year, we wonder about our yards, checking out how our yards have  survived during the winter. As I roam around mine this morning, I notice that the snow is slowly melting, receding away. I see the tips of green grass, leaves from spring flowers, and weeds are poking through the cold soil. There!!…I see frogs, emerging from their winter slumber, greeting the soon to be spring air and the sunshine!

As we count down to the first day of spring...

Day # 7

I like flowers. I always like to pause and smell the flowers at the grocery store. A bouquet came home with me! They do brighten up my dining room table. Especially during this  between winter and spring days. In their quiet way they give us colour, cheerfulness, happiness and a promise that spring and summer is just around the corner!

Bouquets are sometimes given for sympathy, birthdays, anniversaries, to say I love you, weddings, births, and just because! Certain flowers and colours of flowers have meanings!

My mom likes flowers, and accepts bouquets. But, she is always sad and says its such a waste of money when the bouquet is done and gone. Maybe she is right. Save your money in the bank?! or buy a living  house plant instead! I like that idea too!
But as I see it…there are a lot of things we buy and after an hour or so it is long gone and forgotten. Like for example our specialty coffee  and teas (I buy them too)  from a coffee shop.

I will buy my small bouquets of flowers, enjoy them, and take a picture, that way when the flowers  are gone, and in the compost..
 I have  the photographs!
I love flowers, be warned, I shall be posting more flower during my Photo Challenge!

Photo Challenge Day #6

Day # 6

Today is a rainy and cloudy day. The perfect weather to warm up the kitchen and fill the house with wonderful baking smells.
So, this is perfect timing to do my favorite activity, putter in the kitchen and bake. First thing this morning I am digging out my cook books, checking out  pinterest, to finding recipes. If there is an event like Christmas, Birthdays, Easter, or a dinner party...I am doing the research trying to create something for the table, or even just a family favorite!

I am not expecting company, but, I do have a back log of bananas in my freezer. I put really ripe bananas ( which I do not enjoy eating) in to freeze, and at a later date I make banana muffins, breads. The bananas only take a few minutes to thaw, and all you do is snip off an end, and use like normal. They make excellent muffins and bread.
I found a few recipes to try and now am posting the results with the photo of the Day!
I made today, " Mini Bundt Banana Cake" with carmel glaze.

Enjoy, happy baking, happy eating.

My panda bear is one of my oldest toys. He came as a gift when my parents purchased my crib when I was a little girl.  Panda has been dressed in doll clothes, wrapped in blankets. Dragged from one end of our house and yard!
He is filled with straw, his fur is yellowed and worn.  Panda's red ribbon has been lost and  I wonder about the story with loosing his eye? I hope he was a brave bear!
He has been restitched many times, and he is still filled with lots of love!

Panda holds many of my secrets, and has comforted lot of my tears on those sad misunderstood days. Sometimes he was placed lovingly on my bed, and sometimes tossed in a corner when Barbie came into vogue.

Panda has travelled with us from Kerrobert, Sask., then to Penticton BC, and  when we moved to Greenwood BC.
When I had decided to attend  the college here in Prince George BC. Panda stayed behind in the safety of my parents home.

Panda, he is my bear, and now he is  here with me. Panda  sits  amongst my stuffed frogs, a build a  bear/frog, webkinzs, and my biggest bear Cuz. Panda is very busy  keeping an eye on the grand kids. Just in case they need a loving hug!

Day # 4

You know when spring is in the air, just around the corner when you can feel it in the sun, smell the air, and see it in nature.

Signs of spring are everywhere you look. Motorcycles and bikes are seen on the streets. People are shedding their winter coats and boots for something lighter. People "re-shoveling" the piles of snow from where the snow removal team had dumped it. Making appointments to have studded and winter tires removed before the deadline. Making our lists, checking it twice before  heading out to the nurseries and green houses.
In my corner of the world I see signs of spring. Green grass starting to sprout. Tulip and crocus leaves poking out of the dirt.

Day # 4 photo is one of my favorite signs that spring is near. Enjoy!
