We are slowly coming to the end of this 366 day photo challenge. I wanted to get out today and take some PG City Landscapes. Today's weather was perfect!  Since today is also February 29, we have an extra day I thought I would add a couple of extra pictures for you to see and enjoy!

Day # 359 "City of Prince George, view from University Way"

Day # 359 "Relax and enjoy the view"

Day # 359 "City of Prince George view from Highway 16 East"

Day # 359 " View from Highway 16 East"

I found it interesting to see the cut banks from my 2 photo shoot locations! It does make our city unique.

View of city lights from University Way

Night shot from University Way.

I added a couple of night shots that I had taken at tonight. My very first attempt. Like when I was in school learning how to handwrite, the teacher said, "practise, practise, practise"! Yes, I will, it is a whole other world outside in the dark, night, evening, low light!

I will see you all tomorrow with Day # 360!!

Thank you!

Photo Challenge Day #358

Day # 358

Mother Nature was teasing us in Prince George, yesterday! We had beautiful sunshine, people were outside cleaning their cars, shovelling some of the snow piles to the sunny spots to melt, wearing shorts, going for ice cream, planning their spring planting and I even saw someone with a full wheel barrow after cleaning out their flower beds!
Mother Nature has a sense of humour….we woke up to snow! But, hey it is the north, it is Prince George, it is Canada and it is still winter….
So, I hope you don't mind a few more snowy photographs!

Day # 358 "snow shapes and water drops"

Day # 358 " Snow shapes in apple tree"

Tomorrow will be a new day! Enjoy today even with it snowing outside!
Enjoy the pictures!
See you tomorrow with Day # 359!

Photo Challenge Day # 357

Day # 357

One of my photo challenges was 'music'! How do you take a photo of 'music'?  Since I will be celebrating a milestone birthday soon, I had an inspiration!

I grew with this wonderful old radio in our living room as our source of music, news and radio stories.  Our parents first automobile did not have a radio…. can you imagine those long road trips??
I still have my very first long playing record (33 1/3)  filled with childhood songs and nursery rhymes.  The 45's came out in the late 40's, they were a great way to get that one song that you just love without the cost of buying the whole album. My favourite 45 was the sound effects from the "Haunted Mansion" at Disney Land!
In the mid 60's cassette tapes and 8 track tapes come out, the 8 tracks only lasted about 10 years the cassettes lasted longer.  Cassettes were a great way to take your music along with you and the great thing was you could get blank cassette tapes and record your own music!
My children grew up with the CD's…they came out in the early 80's. I am pleased that not only is the current music available, but even the music I grew up with is now on CD's. Slowly the CD's will become the thing of the past.
Now, we have computers, and small devices, cell phones  where you can download music to enjoy where ever you happen to be.
I even have an MP3 player where you download music from your computer onto a memory card ! (some kids laugh cause an MP3 player is 'old fashion")
Today we  have several radio stations, music on our television, music in the malls and stores, on our cell phones and still in our cars. Music is everywhere!

Day # 357 "Music from Julie's last 60 years!
Music fills your heart, brings back memories. Music can heal, celebrate, dance, cry, and not feel so lonely.

I hope that the music you are playing today is making you smile!

Photo Challenge Day # 356

Day # 356

I was standing at the railway station, watching the
traffic going past,
I imagined what the city
was like here many years ago as people
left the station,
heading for down town….
I also was thinking about Petula Clarke's lyrics…

Down town
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
                                                                            Linger on the sidewalks…..
                                                  Down town

Day # 356 "Downtown PG in B & W"
Down town Prince George, BC my home town.
Day # 356 "Prince George BC
looking towards city centre"

My town, it is where I live. It is where I fell in love and had my heart broken and fell in love. This is where my children were born and raised, where my adventure begins. My town, is where I live, laugh and love….

Photo Challenge Day # 355

Day # 355

Tonight we attended a wine tasting event. Hosted by North Vines (craft wine making)/Caribou Brewmasters and Expedia Cruiseshipcenters held at The Twisted Cork.

Going to a wine tasting event like this was a first for me. I am always curious about different wines and pairing them with food, plus not knowing anything about going on a cruise, I thought, " what the hey, a learning experience with wine and food"….I am in!!

Our first wine came from Australia:
Rosemount Estate
Shiraz Cabernet, Australia
Day # 355
The Rosemount Estate wine was served with a Kobe Beef sliders. I loved the size of these sliders! I would make these if I was doing a party/ gathering at home!

Our Second pairing came from Argentina:

Finca Los Primos
Chardonnay
Day # 355
This Chardonnay was served with Thai Curry Shrimp. I  like this wine and I would try and find this wine at the local store.

The next wine and food pairing came from Spain:

Solaz
Tempranillo  Cabernet
Day # 355

The Tempranillo Cabernet was served with a dish called "Spanish Breakfast".This dish was made with olives, pickled peppers and almonds. I could see this dish served with cheese, homemade crusty bread, some fruit, and sunshine on the deck. ( I loved this dish!)

The last wine we tried is from Italy:

Kris
Pinot Grigio
Italy
Day # 355
The Kris was served with a Chili Chicken dish. I must admit Pinot Grigio is one of my favourite wines, and I really love this chicken dish. But, the wine and the Chili Chicken just didn't match to me…both great but not together…(my opinion and taste buds)

It was a great evening with a slide show of the different countries, there was lots of laughter, I enjoyed the tasting of food and wine. It was a challenge trying to snap okay pictures with my cell phone.
I did learn a little about Cruises….not sure if I am ready yet…temping idea… there are other things  and places I need to go and do first, and a cruise ship just does not travel there ! lol
Wine tasting?? I would go and do this again….or ….. pick up a couple of bottles and do one  here….

Photo Challenge Day # 354

Day #354

The snow is slowly melting, and everything that the snow covered last year is now emerging from its winter slumber.

Day # 354 "Frog peeking out"

Photo's taken with my samsung tablet and I used an editing program on my tablet. It is a fun tool to use….if you are like me who doesn't have the talent to draw or paint.

Day # 354 "peeking out"

Each day I see new things peeking out from the snow. Garden items that were left in the flower beds, green grass, weeds and tulip/daffodil leaves.
I am excited and now planning my spring planting.

Photo Challenge Day # 353

Day # 353

My  photo Challenge for today was to take a photo of the moon. Which is perfect timing because of the full moon and clear sky we had last night. I was still awake at midnight, and because the moon light was shining into the room, I decided to bundle up and venture outside.

Day # 353 "Moon shot"

The moon has always intrigued us. We have watched the moon while laying on our backs on our lawns as a child…to telescopes, camera lens.

Just a wee bit of information for you, the photograph that I had submitted to the 'Hell ya PG'
and 'Pine Centre' photo contest along with 24 other photographs are now on display at the 'mall'.

I am very happy to see one of my photographs on display! I am very thankful for the family and friends who had voted for this picture!
Thank you again!!

See you tomorrow with Day # 354!

Ps…if you are in town, and are in the mall…please vote for Fan Favourite!! There is a prize for the one with the most votes! (wink wink)

Photo Challenge Day #352

Day # 352

Today we woke up to a cloudy day with about an inch of snow. As I was thinking, planning and debating my photo for today, the sun came out.
Then a plan came into action!  We needed to go on an adventure and so  (Grace, Donnie, Audrey and I ) we headed down to the river at Cottonwood Island Park. Not just to walk along the many paths and trails.
I had decided to walk on the river bed, we walked on the river rocks, sand, snow, ice and through water as well.
The kids found shells, rocks, a shoe, sticks and lots of…rocks..which they had to throw into the water to see how big of a splash they could make.

Big splash

kids, sticks, rocks & water

Day # 352 "Snack at the river"

We had fun exploring the river bed today. Reminded me of the many people who explore the beaches at the ocean. You never know what treasures you may find there.

Day # 351

Today's photo challenge took ……Squirrel….us to Cottonwood Island Park. The day started out with frost on the …..Squirrel…trees, morning fog, and sunshine trying…..Squirrel….to burn off the fog.
As soon as we started to go for our walk along….Squirrel…. the parks many paths and trails, we had spotted a coyote.
We didn't get very far on the trail before the chickadees slowed us down…Squirrel…. they were very curious and almost friendly. Did they sense that we had some sunflower seeds in our pockets?
Along the path you had to be careful….Squirrel…. because there were no signs …..Squirrel….for Squirrel Crossings!

Day # 351 "Chickadee Encounter # 2"

Photo Challenge Day # 350

Day # 350

Today's photo challenge took us on a drive out of town. We had decided to head north of Prince George.  Our first stop was the Salmon River Bridge. We didn't last long there, walking through knee high soft snow gave us a very good work out!
Salmon River Bridge.
From there we continued to travel north, and decided to turn right onto Mitchell Rd. which if you stayed on this road would take you to The Huble Homestead Historical Site. It is closed until May, and right now the road is very icy!

Snow covered field (morning sky)

We had decided to head back to town, but we just had to stop and take a few pictures of this very cute and darling fixer upper!

Day # 350 "Cabin"

I am looking forward to visit The Huble Homestead in the summer. I think it would be worth the trip (since I have not been there yet).

It was a fun day, and now I am ready for a glass of wine.

Photo Challenge Day # 348

Day # 348

The photo challenge for today was 'Time'. Other than taking a photo of watches, clocks and other time pieces, I found this….
I was outside as I was looking in my flower beds, I see the snow is gone, and the new shoots from my tulip and other spring bulbs are poking up out of the dirt.  We do have just over a month of winter left…. but seeing the new growth, I think the new growth is saying its 'time' for winter to be over!

Day # 348 "Time for Spring"

the first flower
We see and feel time slip past us….. what did you make time for today? What time is it? Time for dinner, coffee, time to call someone we love, time to hang out, time to ????

Photo Challenge Day # 347

Day # 347

Today I had some play time with Donnie and Audrey at the Duchess School Playground. Whether it is sunny, raining or snow covered, there is always lots to do, lots to play.
Day # 347 "Pics with our Grandma"

After playing and getting very wet, we headed back home for a snack and a hot drink.

Grandma should know not to leave her camera or cell phone laying around. It didn't take long until Donnie was using the cell phone as a video camera making his movies.
Audrey, was trying to using 'sweetpea' to take pics of her mom and still life.
They are our futures….

Donnie making a video with my iphone

Audrey's picture of her mom, say "silver cheese"

Donnie took this pic…he made
more movies than pictures..its
all about the 'movie'

Audrey's still life

Audrey had a series of selfies…. I had a hard time down loading
I was laughing so hard..

A future Steven Spielberg, Bren MacDonald or …..

Sometimes it takes a 4 and 5 1/2 year old to teach grandma new tricks. I enjoyed watching them with the camera, unafraid of what the buttons can do. Then seeing the results….

Photo Challenge Day # 346

Day # 346

One of my favourite meals as a child growing up is 'Schwabishe Maultaschen' in English translated to Swabian 'Pockets'.
As a young girl, when mom was making Maultaschen for dinner…we Hennig kids must of done something right that day…..at the end of the meal the platter would be nearly empty..well maybe 3 or 4 pieces left for mom and dad to have for lunch then next day.

These delicious little meat-filled pockets of dough are a speciality of Swabia (a region of Germany) and are the first cousins to the Italian ravioli, the Jewish kerplach and the Chinese won-ton. Maultaschen means 'mouth pockets' of dough that you pop into your mouth. Other parts of Germany they are known as Krapfen.

We would start the meal with a bowl of broth with a maultaschen,  like you would get a bowl of won-ton soup. We could hardly wait to the next course. Mom would bring in a large platter filled with maultaschen and a huge bowl of potato salad…not the mayo style…a simple dressing of oil vinegar salt  pepper tossed with diced celery, green onions and maybe a finely sliced cucumber.
How do you describe this meal….you just have to walk into the house!!

Day # 346 "Maultaschen for Dinner"

It was a very good dinner. Brought back a lot of tasty memories. What was/is your favourite childhood meal?
