Colours of Summer

One of the colours Hummingbirds are attracted to is Red. In the summer you can see Red fruit such as cherries, strawberries and watermelon. My favourite colour of popsicles as a child was "red". Not sure what flavour it was back then…..but we loved showing off the red tongues. A game we use to play when eating cherries, or watermelon was blowing the pits/seeds across the lawn.

The colours of Summer 

When I think of summer, I think of bright colours, there are colours everywhere! When you look you can see bright colours in our clothes, yard, beach, lake, camp, and food just to name a few!

Blue is the colour I found in my yard today. You can find the colour in berries, lakes, rivers, sky, birds just to name a few!

Today we ventured out of town to the 'Ancient Forest'. Which is about an 1 1/2 hr. drive. 

I have been out to the forest and walked the trails before. The trees and the vegetation leave me with such an awe. Some of the trees are 800 to 1000 yrs. old or more. 

During one part of the hike, we were walking through ferns and Queen Ann's Lace that are up past my shoulders! I normally get on my hands, knees and elbows to take floral pictures. This time I didn't need to do that!

Today was a hot day! I think most of the neighbors headed out to the rivers and the lakes to cool off! We stayed in town to enjoy the yard. 
Once the sun settled behind the Foothills, we lite the fire pit, the BC "Cherrie" Sangria (direct from the Okanagan)  came out! 
After a fabulous dinner of Roasted hot dogs, Caprese Salad, with Rhubarb Crisp and French Vanilla Ice Cream ( topped with the soaked fruit) for dessert!

Today was my mothers 81st Birthday. 
I remember giving my mom my report card for her birthday gift! The gift that I had passed to the next grade. The gift of the last day of school, the gift of the first day of summer! Today, with the family, we celebrated her day by going out for dinner and cake.

There once was a Butterfly, she had dark wings. She loved to soar high in the sky, and then lightly landing on a tree to look down at the gardens below. 
Hiding in the garden behind a pansy was her little friend, the flower fairy. They were good friends, looking out for each other. Making sure that other insects and birds didn't think they were a tasty treat.  The flower fairy was good at making sure that the water traps didn't get them wet. It was hard to fly when you are wet!

My pine tree is a home, it holds life in its branches. There are several species of birds making nests/home in the tree. The tree gives me shade while I sit under the tree listening to the different birds. 
Today I notice new growth on the tree, something I didn't notice before today.

After doing chores, yard work, I was sitting on my deck, cold drink in hand, camera in the other. I have several ideas for my photo challenge… but….a hummingbird kept coming to the feeder for a drink. So, I am thinking a nice hummingbird picture just might be the photo for the day! Sadly, I am just not quick enough for him.  Maybe  he is a little camera shy? Or, smarter and faster than me!

Sitting on my deck with my morning coffee, working on my "to do list" I see a knot hole in my deck rails. I wonder…. hmmm I wonder…..
Some people may thing I am wasting time playing…. but…I am curious, I wonder…if I get down low, look up high what kind of photo..oh lets see what I get if I do this…

Today is the first day of summer. Once again, we make plans, vacations, time with family, BBQ's, open windows, cool drinks, fire pits, tents, lakes, swimming, fishing, sun burns, sun tans, flip flops, shorts, sun dresses and more!

Today we worked on the lawn, and I planted more herbs and filled a couple more planters.

Now, I am relaxing in my yard.

I have a lot of interests, one of them is knitting. I always have a basket by my chair with knitting. I have created something for  each one of my kids when they were babies, toddlers, and now afghans for their homes. Even the grand kids get a knitted wardrobe from  Grandma Julie. 
I take my knitting with me, to the lake, friends homes, trips… I find its a great stress release.  I love to create something for me, my home, my family or charity. I even collect all sorts of patterns! Yes, I do have a yarn stash…. 
I taught myself how to knit socks from the top down to the toes, but, my friend Toni taught me how to knit socks from the toes up! I think I can do them now in my sleep!

On a rainy day, sometimes its nice to snuggle under a cozy afghan and read a novel, or watch a movie on TV. 
Most times, I dig out my cook book and bake up a bake shop in my kitchen. Warming up the house with great cinnamon, chocolate, lemon or  vanilla smells. 
 And on other rainy days, its the ironing board, iron and those items that need ironing that I put off for just like a day like today! I turn on a movie, or play some music, I then iron.

I just love the smell of clean cotton, freshly washed, ironed, nice and crisp ready to be worn or used!

I think most people have a "Bucket List" or a "To Do List". I am no different. One of the adventures I would love to do and it is on my "List", is take the Via Rail, or Rocky Mountaineer to Jasper, Prince Rupert, or even across Canada. 
There is something romantic about travelling by train, esp. from the novels I have read, and watching movies. 
 As a little girl, I wanted to have my own train set. I now have 3 sets.   
 I remember when we were visiting GG (in Chilliwack,BC) laying in bed, upstairs at the "Big House, as I am slowly drifting off to sleep, you can hear, you can feel the the bed slowly shake as the train travels through town….and in the darkness you can hear the whistle blowing at the crossings. I dream that I am on the train.
My mom often tells stories about her trip across Canada to Tabor Alberta, to make a home and marry dad…that was 62 yrs. ago.

I was puttering around the shed today…. a total shed clean out is on my "to do list". Meanwhile, I was checking out the "stuff" inside the shed.  
I decided that the door would make a great back drop for a rustic "still life" photo shoot.
I found a pair Don's rubber boots…and I have a pair of my grandson Donnie's rubber boots to use for my props. I couldn't latch the door on the inside…Right as I was taking the shot the door suddenly blew open!

My children would often would ask me what my favourite flowers were. I always answered with 
Dandelion's.
 They were my favourite because, they were a happy sunshine yellow, they grew in abundance and the children were allowed to pick them by the arm full. I had made dozens of Dandelion crowns for my girls! 

Another favourite flower was the wild rose. When you go for a walk they are almost everywhere, they are a lovely shade of pink, and they smell wonderful and Alberta's Provincial Flower!

I like wondering around the yard after the rain. The leaves and the grass are all a nice bright green. The colours on the flowers are brighter. The air smells fresh and clean! Plus, with a good rain not only is my rain barrel nice and full, but, I didn't need to water!

I like taking photographs with my macro lens. I like the close up view of nature, through my lens. The rain drops are like clear glass pearls.

I am my mothers daughter. My mother loves plants, not only is her thumb green, but every finger as well. She loves to wonder greenhouses, gardens not only to admire the plants, flowers, but, the challenge to grow them as well. She can take a cutting, or a sad looking plant and bring it to life! 
I found a unique plant at the plant store. Like mom, after circling the store several times, I decided to get this plant and bring it home.

This plant is in the Celosia family, named Twisted, cristata.  Easy Care ( I like that ) great for patio, or garden can also grow indoors.

I do like this time of year.  I wonder my flower beds, and veg. gardens to see how the seeds, and plants are coping in my yard. I venture to the nurseries, green houses and see if I can find something a bit different that likes our summers and winters. I also look for plants that attract butterflies, hummingbirds and bees! 
I get a wee bit excited when I manage to take a photograph of a bee busy at work!

From my very first trip to Fort St. Joh(so many years ago) and back home again to Prince George, we always  had  to stop at Bijoux Falls. It has become a family tradition.  With a packed dinner or lunch, its a nice break from  travelling the highway. 
Even if its a quick stop to use the facilities, I always take a short walk to the falls. This time  was no different. This time with the some of then newest members of the Pedde Fleet!  I also know the stops at these falls will come to an end, once Mom Pedde moves to Chilliwack. I feel a bit sad about that.

June 6th was to be my anniversary! 
I just feel the need to celebrate the day anyways with a bit of honour and love to my children and my family! With me getting married to Don, and then having and raising the Pedde Fleet! I felt the need to celebrate….. "Family" 

In Fort St. John, I look around at the family Donna and Ken Pedde had created! What a legacy they have! They should be proud! 
Then I took a look at my family around me! The family Don and I had started! 
Andrew, Nathan, Caitlin, Kimberly and Tracey! Now I add Danielle, Grace my daughter in laws, and the Grand kids, Ashton, Donnie, Aleah, Audrey and James…We too have a legacy!

I am in Fort St. John BC, to attend in my father in laws burial and memorial. He passed away, January 29 2015. 
I really did  try to find a fitting picture for my photo challenge. 
 For his memorial and others who had gone before us, we decided to do a ballon launch. It was a windy afternoon, and the balloons took off! I didn't have time to focus with my camera. Or enjoy the way they should drift up and away. 
I suppose it is fitting, we have people who come and go in our lives. Some will stay a life time and for some people just stay with us for a short time.

It was a misty this morning at the foothills of the rockies. When I was going for my morning walk, I could feel the mist on my cheeks. 
Later on, during the day, it rained, then poured. We all know how important it is to have rain right now.
 There is something comforting about the rain beating  down on the metal roof, I am warm in the log house. Lemon tea keeping my hands toasty warm while I am watching the rain. I was feeling sorry for Kilde and Skjohn, the horses, having to keep out of the rain, by standing under trees in the forest.

So, Yes I drank tea, stayed warm, knitted, and skyped with my grand kids in Prince George,BC.

As you know, I am always doing some sort of needle craft. I try and take something with me  in my travels.  Being here on the ranch is no different.  Sitting on the deck knitting, dreaming….. dreaming of the next pair, the next project! I have made socks in all sorts of colours and sizes. This is a great place to display my knitting!

Today, Kilde was up at the Barn, I could see Skjohn was in the forest, eating. I called to Kilde, and she responded back to me!  I took some photos of her. She was curious about the camera hanging on my shoulder. When I spoke about "the boys" Ernie and Jean, coming home soon. Her ears perked and twitched. When I gave her pets and hugs, she wanted more…I gladly gave.
